College Wellbeing Sessions

What are they?

Working with your hands and creating something has been proven to improve mental health, so with that in mind I provide a range of plans to help you, your staff, and students get hands on!

The sessions are designed to be hassle-free for the hosts and that's why I provide all tools, materials and folding work benches, so all you need to do is supply a reasonably sized indoor or outdoor space and some participants.

Logistics

Full H&S briefing, PPE and risk assessment provided for each session

Students book in for an hour slot, in which they will make something to take away with them. Sessions are available in 3 or 6 hour blocks, with 6 students an hour (therefore catering to 18 or 36 students)

    Testimonials

    Churchill June 2025:

“I've never done carpentry before, so it was exciting to be given the chance to make something and be able to take it home with me”

“I learnt a new skill that left me feeling very proud of what I made”

“It's something applicable in real life, I now feel confident I could undertake small project for my room/house in the future”

“It was really nice to get a plant and pot at the end of it: I really appreciate that we got a finished product in just one hour”

“I have been to quite a few well being events now and I have to say that this was by far my favourite. Imogen was a great teacher and the plant stand is very cool!”

    Murray Edwards June 2025

'Imogen ran a wellbeing workshop at our College teaching student basic carpentry tools that they used to make birdboxes.  Imogen was great to work with and made arranging the workshop as clear and easy as possible.  Our students thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and were really enthusiastic about Imogen's teaching style and the skills that they learned.  We'll definitely be booking again!'

    - Sooz Imrie, Head of Wellbeing at Murray Edwards

"The carpenter workshop was great! I really enjoyed and appreciated how Imogen created the space and opportunity for a carpenter newbie like me. It was a bit of a workout as I was really not strong (my right forearm was sore the next day lol), but I was happy in the end that I managed to do it and got my hands dirty! I felt that a sense of connection was built between me and the natural environment with other species around me after working hard on my bird house. It was a great introduction to a more sustainable lifestyle too.  Please do bring such events to the college more in the future! Would love to see Imogen again to teach us DIY other things ;) "

"I thought it was brilliant — in fact, the so brilliant that I think it might be the best welfare event yet. I think the bird box idea was also so cool and would love events like this in future. I know a few of my friends loved the idea but didn’t attend so even a repeat of the same bird box making aim would be so great!  I don’t think I would have otherwise even considered carpentry."

"It’s genuinely been a highlight among all the non-academic events I’ve attended during my time at college. Building a birdhouse using quality materials and following clear, thoughtful instructions made the session both enjoyable and grounding.  It felt like a meaningful gesture from the college – a symbolic and material investment in students’ well-being. The workshop offered a rare opportunity for creative expression and bonding, nurturing a sense of care and community among women students beyond academic life."
